5 (6, 8) skeins Montage (discontinued); Color: SP6 - Italian Soda(or color of your choice)
US Size 15 knitting needles

 

Gauge:
Approx. 10 st st = 4"

 

Note: The yarn used in this pattern has been discontinued. May be substituted with yarn of similar gauge.

Abbreviations:
K = knit
P = purl
BO = bind off
WSR = wrong side row
RS = right side
EOR = every other row
st = stitch
beg = beginning
dec = decrease
rep = repeat

 

To knit shell:
BACK

 

CO 42 (46, 48) st
R1-4: Knit
R5: Knit
R6: K8, P till last 8 st, K8

 

Repeat R5 & 6 until piece measures 12" (12.5", 13") from beginning.

 

Shape armhole:
R1: BO 3 (4, 5) st at beg of row, K till end.
R2: BO 3 (4, 5) at beg of row, K5, P till last 5 st, K5
R3: K
R4: K5, P till last 5 st, K5
R5: Dec 1 st each side of armhole
R6: K4, P till last 4 st, K4
R7: Rep R5
R8: K3, P till last 3 st, K3
R9: Rep R5
R10: K2, P till last 2 st, K2
R11: Rep R5
R12: K1, P till last st, K1
R13: K
R14: K1, P till last st, K1

 

Repeat R13-14 until armhole measures 7" (7.5", 8") from beginning of shaping, ending with WSR.

 

Shape shoulders & neck:
(RS) BO 3 st at beg of next 4 rows; BO remaining st.

 

FRONT
Work as for BACK until armhole measures 1.5" from beg of shaping, ending with WSR;
Dividing the stitches equally, place marker between 2 center st

 

Shape neck:
Continuing armhole shaping at each side, work across to marker, join a second ball of yarn and work to end.

 

Working both sides at the same time, at each neck edge, dec 1 st EOR 3 times.
Working even at armhole, continue to dec 1 st at each neck edge EOR 5 times.
Work even until armhole measures the same as back to shoulder shaping, ending with WSR.

 

Shape shoulders:
(RS): Work as for BACK

 

Making Up
Join shoulder seams.

 

For side seams, cut about a yard long of yarn and join seam starting from the armhole.
With right side pieces facing you, join the sides in the same way you would lace your shoes in a criss-cross pattern. Make a bow at each end.
