Knitted Measurements
Circumference: 20" unstretched

Materials
1 x Chelsea #9010 (or color of your choice) - A
2 x Malibu #89 (or color of your choice) - B
US Size 10 1/2 knitting needles

Gauge
Approx 6.4 st = 4" in 2 x 2 ribbing

To knit hat/beret:
With A & B held together, cast on 32 stitches.
Work in 2 x 2 ribbing till 4" from beginning.

Increase row:
Working in 2 x 2 ribbing, increase 1 st every 8 stitches - you now have 36 st.
Continue in 2 x 2 ribbing till piece measures 9" from beginning.

Shape crown (continue to work in 2 x 2 ribbing throughout):
R1: Decrease 1 st in pattern after every 4 st, i.e. work 4 st, then either knit 2 together or purl 2 together.
R2 and all even rows: Work in 2 x 2 ribbing
R3: Decrease 1 st in pattern after every 3 st
R5: Decrease 1 st in pattern after every 2 st
R7: Decrease 1 st in pattern after every 1 st

Cut yarn, leaving a tail of about 18". Weave through remaining st, removing st from needle.
Draw up tightly and sew up seam.

Weave through remaining stitches, removing stitches from knitting needle. Draw up tightly and sew up seam.

The finished hat may be worn either as a hat or a beret.
