This first pattern would fit an average adult female (adult male in parenthesis)

Knitted Measurements
Circumference: 19"; unstretched

Materials
1 x Merino Velvet Worsted; Color 100 or 101
US Size 6 (4 mm) and Size 8 (5 mm) circular and double-point knitting needles

Gauge
Approx 19 st = 4" in Stockinette Stitch

To knit hat:
With Size 6 circular needles, cast on 90 stitches.
Join; place marker to mark beginning of round.
(K1, P1) for 8 rows.
Purl 1 row.

Change to Size 8 circular needles.
Work in Stockinette Stitch for 6" (7").

Decrease (switch to double-point needles when necessary):
Rd 1: *(K7, SSK, K2tog, K7), rep * till end of round.
Rd 2, 4, 6, 8: Knit.
Rd 3: *(K6, SSK, K2tog, K6), rep * till end of round.
Rd 5: *(K5, SSK, K2tog, K5), rep * till end of round.
Rd 7: *(K4, SSK, K2tog, K4), rep * till end of round.
Rd 9: *(K3, SSK, K2tog, K4), rep * till end of round.
Rd 10: *(K2, SSK, K2tog, K2), rep * till end of round.

Cut yarn, leaving a tail of about 12".
