Sport Weight Yarn

Sport weight yarn is yarn that is between fingering weight and DK weight yarn. It is usually knitted using US Size 3 - 5 needles and has a gauge of 6-6.75 stitches per inch. Sport weight yarns are good for textured stitches, cabling, colorwork and lightweight projects.

Sport weight yarns can come with different fiber content, from cotton, bamboo, rayon, linen, silk to wool, merino wool, alpaca, mohair and cashmere. Sport weight yarn creates a beautiful lightweight fabric (though it can be warm if made using wool, alpaca or wool derivatives) and is ideal for scarves, shawls, sweaters, and baby wear.
